Safety Rules at the Chemistry Laboratory
The “DO NOT’S”:
1. Never work in the laboratory without proper supervision by an instructor.
2. Never carry out unauthorized experiments.
3. Eating and drinking are prohibited in the laboratory at all times. Never taste any chemicals. Never drink out of a lab container.
The “DO’S”:
1. Eye protection (chemical goggles) must be worn at all times in the laboratory.
2. Students should wear durable clothing that covers the arms, legs, torso and feet.
3. Students should always wear lab coats. Long hair should be tied back to keep it from coming into contact with lab chemicals or flames.
4. Know the location and operation of:
- Fire Extinguishers
- Eye Wash Stations
- Fire Alarm Boxes
- Exit Doors
- First Aid Kits
5. Report any accidents to the instructor.
Any violation of the above rules may result in expulsion from the laboratory on that day and suspension from the following activity.
